New/Refurbished Computer Setup Instructions!

If you are working with a new computer, or a computer that has been wiped clean and refurbished, here are the basic steps you will need to take in order to get back up and typing/dictating.

1. The first step is to download and install the newest version(s) of software you will be using on your computer .*   You can do so by visiting the downloads page on our website here: www.bytecsribe.com/download.  You will need to fill in the download form with your personal information and choose which program you would like to install from the product window.  After downloading the 14-day free trial period of the software, you will then need to register the software with a Product Serial Number (PSN) or USB Dongle.

2.  Once you have the desired program(s) installed on your computer, you will need to register the software.  There are two methods for doing so.  The first is by using a Product Serial Number, and the second option is to use a USB Dongle.

a. PSN method: When you open your software, you will be prompted to register.  Fill in your personal information and the PSN and click Register Online.  If you do not remember your PSN, you can email ([email protected]) the support team and request a copy of your number be sentto you through email.  As mentioned in the end-user license agreement (EULA), the software license can be registered 3 times.  We set this limit to prevent any potential software piracy.  You can review the EULA here: http://www.bytescribe.com/end-user-license-agreement-eula/.  If you have already reached your maximum lifetime registrations of 3, you will need to purchase another license of the software.  A new software license can be purchased online at store.bytescribe.com.

b. USB Dongle: Make sure you have downloaded the USB Dongle drivers from our downloads page. The newest Dongle drivers can be found at this link: http://www.bytescribe.com/downloads/dongle_setup.exe. When prompted plug in your dongle registration key.

3.  The last step in setting up your software is to enter your settings.  If you are using the DocShuttle software, you will need to enter your FTP information and passwords.  It is very important that all passwords are correct.  If you have trouble connecting or it is taking a long time to connect (and you have double checked your passwords), try checking/unchecking the Enable SSL Compatibility box in your Settings window.  If you have any trouble with setting up your software, take a look through the FAQ/Forum section of our Help Desk site.  If you do not find an answer, you can open a support ticket and we will contact you with some troubleshooting information.

* Our most recent versions of software are compatible with Windows 7 (64-bit), Windows 8, and Windows 10 operating systems.
